This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I work with students in 2nd and 3rd grade, during the literacy block, who need additional help with fluency and decoding. These students are energetic and eager to learn strategies, and skills that will help them be more fluent readers. They always enjoy participating in group discussions, and really gain a lot of confidence when working with a partner. They often struggle with having enough resources at home which will allow them to have additional reading time outside of school.

My Project

The home engagement kits will give the parents the resources needed to support their child with reading comprehension and fluency. The packet contains all the materials needed for parents to be able to interact with their child and a fun relaxed way at home. The packets has games and activities that will promote family fun and involvement in the reading process. Reading is the foundations for all things, and assisting families in taking an active role, is key to promoting student success in reading. Parents are eager to help, and often appreciate having materials they can use to help their child.
