Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are so happy to be back home after the storm. Now, we are trying to make our classroom the best it can be. My students continue to improve with their language development. We share stories and read lots of books related to our experiences.
I have 19 ESL students.
All of my students families are from Mexico. Their parents are very supportive and participate in as many activities at school as they can. We are all trying to get back on track after the storm. We were without power for over 10 days. Many of their parents lost work during this time. I still try to give my students every experience I can. It is important to build background knowledge. If we are reading about making bread, then we are making bread in class. There is a push now to expose children to nonfiction reading materials. Our school doesn't have a lot of resources.
My Project
As I try to get my students to work on grade level, it is important to expose them to the same literature that other students have in our state. I want them to have every resource they can. The New Jersey Common Core states that children should be exposed to as much nonfiction literature as possible. I hope with your support that I will be able to do this.
My students have been through a lot.
They face challenges everyday. We are recovering from a hurricane, learning a language and trying to keep up with our peers. Please support us!
