My Students
I love working in Waco and teaching these kids! I work in a Title 1 district where, for some of these kids, my classroom is the most stable environment they may encounter. I love seeing their smiles as they walk in to my room, and receiving hugs at the end of every day.
By reading books, a lot of my students are able to escape to a different world or place and be someone else for awhile.
So many of my students beg to do “book talks” on the book they are reading or work to organize book clubs with a few other students in the class. They also ask me daily what bI am reading and like to read the same as me after I finish.
My Project
My classroom desperately needs a bookshelf! Over the past 5 years of teaching, I have worked to purchase many, many books for my classroom. I LOVE reading and I enjoy teaching my students to love reading, also.
As it is, I have more books than I have space for in my classroom, so a lot of them have to sit in stacks on the floor or in cabinets unseen.
Students have trouble finding the books they want to read because there is no way to organize the stacks. With a bookshelf in my classroom, we will be able to properly care for the books and be able to give them a proper “home.” I want my classroom library to be inviting, not overwhelming and sad. Please help us!
