My Students

I have an amazing group of first grade learners from an "At Risk" district. My children work very hard but do not always have the tools for daily skills. They enjoy so many aspects of being in first grade. They are becoming more independent and using desks for the first time. We use flexible seating for stations and explorations. Many of my students come to school with great enthusiasm to learn and a desire to do good. Unfortunately, some do not have the support at home, so I aspire to make my classroom as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

My Project

My first graders are learning to be more independent and learning to take care of their personal belongings and one of those skills is their "Take Home Folder". This is a major resource of communication with their parents regarding issues with their classroom and happenings in the school. Learning to be responsible for bringing their folder everyday is essential in their development of accountability for both student and parent. We need new mailboxes to store all their very important work and communications for their parents. With new mailboxes it will be easier to help my students become organized and take ownership for what they have accomplished.
