Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I believe that we are only as strong as our weakest community member and that is why we must lift everyone up and not tear them down.
This ideology starts with our young people. They are our future!
I am a first year teacher at a Title I school and I teach Math/Science for 4th graders. Last year I was a student teacher for 5th grade Math/Science and loved it. I have gained a wealth of knowledge and can't wait to bring it into this new school year. I will be working with about 40+ bilingual students each day and I can't be more excited.
My Project
It is my goal to provide my students with a comfortable learning environment; and, one way to accomplish this is by taking the different learning styles into consideration. We have entered a new wave of teaching that combines innovative teaching strategies with preferential seating. I believe that it is important for students to work towards taking ownership over their learning and flexible seating allows students to do just that.
Wobble chairs and lap desk prove to be multi-purposeful and contribute to this objective by allowing students to acquire knowledge the way they feel the most comfortable, thus taking ownership of their learning.
We will use wobble chairs at our round table for small group rotations in science and math.
In addition, students will be allowed to check out flexible seating as needed and it can be used as a motivational tools. Lap desk will be used for our technology station, partner work and/or reading assignments. They allow students to mobilize and comfortably work around the room.
We will use white boards, markers and erasers almost daily for "check for understanding," warm-up activities, practice and fun games for test reviews.
