"Nothing is impossible; even the word itself says, "I'm Possible!" This is a quote that hangs in our classroom and over the years, it has become our motto. My students know that I will never give up on them, so they aren't allowed to give up on themselves.
Students in my classroom are students who have not been successful in the traditional classroom setting.
They learn best with hands-on skills and real-world relevance. Students come to class ready to be immersed in learning for their life after high school, not just for a grade. My students haven't always "gotten" school.
Somewhere along the way, they lost their passion for learning. It is my goal to try to rejuvenate that joy and passion. My students work in a competency-based program where they are no longer focused on credits but instead, are showing true proficiency in sixty areas related to high school subjects such as biology, personal finance, and literature. Projects are all hands-on and often include "real world" relevance with field trips or guest speakers. Not all students learn the same and this program is designed for those students.
My Project
Living in a small, rural community we are always looking for new ways to get our students skills that will help them excel in life and in the job force. With local college campuses being closed due to COVID, our options for skill development has shrunk exponentially. We need new tools in our school to make sure that our students have the best training available to them.
Our county has a high rate of poverty, anything that we can do to ensure that our students have the chance to rise above and help their family is our goal.
Getting this HoloLens would allow us to train our students to become industry certified while still in high school. Students would be able to learn how to take apart machinery (or body organs!) and find defects. They would be able to learn things that we just don't have access to in our community. They can take that knowledge and take certification tests to make their learning "real world."
