My students have a great desire to learn more about the Holocaust. The Book Thief, Number the Stars and Milkweed are high interest novels selected by my students as books they want to read.
Our Title I junior high is part of the heart of our community.
All 7th and 8th graders in the area attend our school to further their education and prepare for high school and beyond. Our school takes great pride in providing not only top notch academics, but unparalleled elective courses for our students. This includes exposing our students to important concepts and themes, such as the Holocaust.
Adding these books, The Book Thief, Milkweed and Number the Stars, to our classroom library will enable my students to borrow and share great books with each other. These books will be made available year after year to all of my students.
To prevent future acts of genocide and intolerance, all children should be exposed to the history and literature of the Holocaust.
These books will also be utilized to conduct an in-depth unit of study on the Holocaust from a variety of perspectives. Additionally, students will conduct research into this historical time period and will complete a variety of projects. Please help provide my students with the opportunity to have access to these amazing books!
