Help me give my students a creative way of learning about a major historical event, The Holocaust! I am requesting a graphic novel called Maus I that represents events within World War II.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from very diverse cultural backgrounds with not enough resources at home to meet their educational needs. Even with the hardship they face, they are the most vibrant, loving students I have met. As high schoolers, they are accustomed to sitting in classrooms for eight hours a day in various classes. My students and I like to spice it up and do fun activities that relate to the real world, along with learning various English language arts skills. We love to be up and active while learning new things! My students are driven to succeed and love having fun while doing so!
Reading and writing provides them an escape from their world and also takes them to a place where they feel safe.
The amount of times students have asked if they can read or write just a little bit longer, fills my heart with joy. Overall, my students want to break the cycle of poverty in their families and bring new opportunities to their lives. By coming to school every day and participating in class and in the community, they are already on their way to accomplishing that goal.
My Project
Graphic novels are becoming more and more present in the English classroom. It is a great way to read a story but in a different medium. I would love to read Maus l during my Holocaust Unit next year.
Students are always asking to try new things in the classroom and I would love to give them this new opportunity.
Students will enjoy a different way of reading a story and it will be a great way to compare what it is like to read a book versus a graphic novel about a similar topic. Please help me give this new opportunity to allow my students to learn more about the Holocaust.
