"I didn't have this opportunity. I didn't have the chance to get a good education and to go to college. I work very hard, but I didn't have the chance to get a good job. I will do everything I can for my child to understand the importance of education, to understand that education is my son's ticket out of this life. Education is his answer to having the chances at life that I never had." I will never forget these heartbreaking but empowering words spoken by a parent of one of my students during one of our parent/teacher conferences. This parent couldn't have more accurately verbalized the struggle, yet importance of education to everyone, especially our minority students who live in poverty.
As a teacher in a high priority, Title I school with a diverse student population (many of which are refugees from other countries) their education is THE CHANCE they have for a better life.
I feel honored to work with this population. I try to take every opportunity I can to make sure that I am as effective as possible in providing them with the best education they could possibly have. They want it. They deserve it.
My Project
Technology has become an increasingly important focus in our classrooms. Using technology resources provides quick and efficient methods for teachers to connect with students, as well as educational activities that are specific to student needs and learning styles. Students love using their technology resources as they are informative, but also interactive and engaging. Many of these activities have sound and they must be able to hear them in order to learn.
With these over the ear headphones, students will be able to focus on their individualized learning tasks without disrupting other students with the sound of the activities.
Ear buds have been provided for students in the past, but the ear buds hurt their ears and the wires are easily broken. With over the ear headphones, students will be more comfortable and better able to focus.
