Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a self-contained, special education class that has students with mild to moderate disabilities, including autism, ADHD, speech and language, emotional, learning, and intellectual disabilities. The majority of my students are also English Language Learners. They are hardworking and, despite their challenges, have a desire to learn! Each student is a unique individual who brings joy to our classroom. Our school is a Title I school where over 90% of our students receive free or reduced meals. In my classroom, each student receives free breakfast and free lunch. Our school is unique as we have a large population experiencing homelessness.

My students love experiencing new things and having hands-on experiences!

My students actively participate in the school community and are enjoying learning. This year we are hoping to provide more hands-on learning and experiences!

My Project

Each year we spend all of November and December learning about different countries around the world. With such an amazing and diverse class, this allows each student to see themselves in what we are learning! The big buy-in for my students with this unit is our "airplane rides" we take as we go to a new country!

My students need books that will help them understand the different holidays from around the world!

My students love books! They are all learning how to read! Many of them do not have books at home, so school is the one place they know they can find something to read! These books will allow us to explore different countries and holidays around the world!
