Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year, my kindergarten classroom is composed of twenty-six students. My students are energetic, curious, and eager to learn. They hail from different backgrounds, but they love being able to learn about the world around them together.
Due to the pandemic, many are experiencing school in person for the first time this year or will be doing so soon.
Despite the challenges we have faced, my students and their parents have risen to the occasion. However, I am cognizant of their daily struggles and wish to help them as much as possible.
My Project
The majority of our students come from low-income homes. Due to the pandemic, many families have been limited in resources. I would like to provide each child with a gift bag to take home and open during the holidays. Although they are not big gifts, I wish to put together a gift bag that will help my students and their families create a special memory.
I want my students to get cozy with some good books, which I have already purchased, while enhancing their experience by providing some snacks and other fun trinkets.
Each student will receive a bag of popcorn, a packet of hot cocoa, a pack of cookies, fun headbands, a candy cane, and some chocolate so they can choose how to spruce up their reading experience. They will also be creating their own ornament to take home using the fillable ornaments and fake snow.
With your help, my students will be able to create memories that will foster a love for reading and quality family time.
