Can you imagine moving to a new city or state? What about moving to a whole new country? Not to mention, the possibility of having no formal education and limited English proficiency. This is the case for many of my students. Nonetheless, the students I work with are absolutely amazing! I teach at a Title l elementary school in Kansas and solely work with small groups of English Language Learners.
My students are hard-working and so much fun to be around.
Because English is their second language, reading can become challenging and intimidating when reading with peers. When given opportunities and great instruction, I know my students are capable of anything!
My Project
Many of my students do not have access to literature at home. This is why it’s incredibly important that we have a library with interesting and relevant books that spike their interest.
Having books for our library will provide opportunities for my students to become life-long learners and instill the love of reading.
My students really enjoy independent reading time because it gives them a chance to learn more about holidays around the world.
Students will be able to have access to the library and choose from a wide range of books. I want to lead by example and show the importance of a classroom library.
