The students who would most benefit and enjoy these books are primary and young elementary boys and girls. These students live in an urban, high poverty city with 100% free lunch/snacks.
Many of the students are excited about reading and comment that they do not have any books at home; which is why it is so important to have high interest books for them to read at the school library.
At the primary and elementary level, students are so excited to learn to read and I want to have more books that they want to read and can read on the shelves.
My Project
The holiday books at our school library are old and out of date. Many of the students can't even read many of the books because the books are at too high a reading level for them. I want to change that.
No matter what holiday, even reluctant readers want a great holiday book.
Therefore, I want to buy several fun Halloween and Christmas books that will excite the students like Vampire Boy's Good Night and How Santa Got His Job. I can use many of the books as read alouds during library class but mostly I want the students to check out the books and enjoy them. These books will be a significant start to developing a splendid holiday book collection!
