Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from all types of backgrounds. I have students who have traveled the world and those who have rarely left Oklahoma City.
Our school is very diverse, we have all races and all socioeconomic backgrounds.
The one thing all of our students have in common is that they love coming to school and are all given the same opportunities! One of our biggest challenges is making sure that we reach every student regardless of their background. Fourth grade is made up of around 60 wonderful, excited students. My hope is that with my projects, I can show students how important it is to read and also to install in them a love and interest for reading!
My Project
Reading is something that we do every single day in my class. By purchasing grade level appropriate novels for my students to read together, it makes reading so much more exciting. My goal for my students is to show them all different types of genres of books. Holes, by Louis Sachar, is a mystery and I hope that I am able to reach students who don't typically love to read mysteries to maybe find a new genre that they enjoy! We will practice reading this book independently, as a groups, with partners and with me! It is a wonderful book with lots of twists and turns.
