Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fifth graders live in a primarily working class and immigrant neighborhood that is currently going through some demographic changes. Some of my students are learning English as a second language, some have special needs, and they all love to learn. They especially love project-based learning, which is a staple in our classroom.
Our motto is, "The world is changing, and change starts with me." At our film and communication magnet, our students share their learning with the school community and the surrounding neighborhood as they host student film festivals, project museums, and special events like book battles.
My Project
We have a busy classroom! My students are always working in groups, whether it's to work out math problems or plan a film project. With a dynamic classroom setting like ours, seating options are critical. Our cozy carpets provide some places to work in groups, but it's hard to do your work when you're balancing your book or laptop on your knees. We need other options.
Portable lap desks would give my students one way to work around the classroom and still have a flat surface to put their work.
These lap desks have a small seat that will anchor the rest of the desk when the student sits on it. The top of the desk is a small writing table where they can put their notebooks or laptops.
With your generous donation, my students will have a convenient place to work in groups--anywhere in the classroom. My students and I thank you!
