My Students

My school has a diverse student population that pulls from a very large area. The students have varied socioeconomic backgrounds, learning levels, and experiences. It has been challenging to try to ensure they are able to participate in distance learning and motivate many of them to participate.

When I can demonstrate a process for them, live online, they are much more engaged and interested!

My Project

These molecule kits will allow me to demonstrate chemical bonding and molecular formation in a 3-Dimensional, hands-on format for my students, live online. It is so crucial that students are able to visualize this process and looking at it on a flat page or screen is just not the same. It is also extremely helpful to see bonding occur in steps. This helps students better understand the process and why molecules have different shapes.

Hands-on manipulatives engage and motivate all learners including English language learners and special education students.

They allow me to easily differentiate the curriculum from advanced to including increased support and scaffolding. When we return to the classroom these kits will last for many years and be helpful to hundreds of students in the science department. They will be able to build these molecules themselves throughout the year.
