Every day students enter my classroom with a desire to learn and grow. They are curious about the world and each other. My science students explore the world through scientific inquiry, and engineering to develop an understanding of how things work and begin to creatively design their own solution to everyday problems. My AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students work diligently to learn skills and strategies that will help them become college and career ready.
Many of my students come from different cultures with more than 26 different native languages spoken at home in our school.
I also have ELL (English Language Learners) and special education students integrated into all of my classes. Every day, I work hard at differentiating my instruction to meet the needs of all of these students.
My Project
Every day students in my class look to work in spaces that work best for them, which is usually not sitting in a traditional chair at a table. They want to be in a comfortable space where they can work collaboratively and be able to move. Many of my students are more engaged in class when they are able to move. For some this is tapping their feet, standing so they can move, or even playing with a fidget.
Hokki stools will provide my students a flexible seating option that allows them to move and be active as well as work collaboratively in a space that works best for them in the classroom.
Being able to move while working will allow my students to be more engaged in what we are doing in class. This in particular will benefit my students with ADHD, ADD, Autism, and Anxiety as they tend to need to move more while in class. The addition of these stools in my classroom will provide the flexible seating that students are looking for as they learn to figure out what works best for their learning style. The stools will allow them to move in their seats.
