My Students
Our school is an urban high school with about 1,000 students, and it is a very diverse learning environment! My students encompass a variety of backgrounds, beliefs, and ideas. My students love interacting with their peers, socializing and telling jokes. They are full of passion, energy, and excitement and take pride in their successes.
Many of my students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and deserve to have every opportunity they can to succeed.
They are excited to be a part of PHS and I hope to help provide them with the skills they need in my class and beyond.
My Project
My students need DVDs of films and documentaries relating to historical and current events to help them better understand these events and make connections to them. We study so many different events throughout history and it is very helpful for students to view some of these events through a visual representation. Through the use of films, my students will be able to make better connections and empathize with the characters in the movies, some of whom are based on real people and events. They will be able to see dramatizations of actual events that occurred. In addition, through the use of documentaries, my students will be able to hear firsthand accounts from experts like historians and scientists and individuals involved in current and past events.
It is important for my students to understand that history is more than just dates and facts but also consists of stories by real people.
History happens every day and effects everyone throughout the world in many different ways. Through these documentaries and films, I hope that my students will be able to feel like they are witnessing some of these events and make those connections so that they have better understanding.
