This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the most amazing job in the world. I teach 60 energetic and talented high school juniors about the history of the United States. My school is classified as high poverty but this title only makes teachers and students seek out creative ways to enrich our curriculum. Our school has a very diverse population. Something that makes our school unique is our international focus. We infuse international perspectives throughout each class, truly giving students a global perspective in today's world.
I was surprised to find that in the 21st century United States, there are still schools with very limited access to technology. Part of our mission and vision statement charges us to help create globally minded, globally competitive students. This is very difficult without allowing our students to develop technological skills. My students have shown an interest in video production, editing and pod casting. We would like to enter into a national competition that challenges us to identify and creatively present the 10 most important people in American history. We do not have access to a computer lab to assist in this project.
The notebook computer will allow us to edit video and create pod casts of student findings. Students will supervise every aspect of the project, including narrowing down hundreds of years of history to 10 important people. One class would like to present their list via a video while my other classes are considering entering the contest using student created pod casts.
You will make a difference with your donation. My students will learn valuable skills, including but not limited to, working collaboratively to analyze historical events and data while confidently and creatively expressing themselves using technology. When my students go to college, these skills will be necessary for academic success.
