My Students

I teach approximately 145 seventh graders, aged 12 and 13, with a variety of developmental levels, interests, and background experiences. Many students have a difficult time connecting history with their everyday lives.

A great way to show students why history is important to them is by opening their eyes to the history happening right now in their worlds through current events.

We have wide access to many digital sources, but print media is also important in both exposing students to current events and strengthening their reading comprehension skills

My Project

Access to current events is vital for students to connect the importance of learning history to their everyday lives. Research shows that students who read or view news sources regularly are more likely to value their civic duties as adults.

As a 1:1 school district in Saint James, we have easy access to digital news sources, but the value of print media cannot be underrated.

A subscription to TIME for Kids will put credible and engaging newsprint in the hands of each of my students that will help them explore and understand the ever-changing world around them and connect it to their own lives.
