The students I work with are 9th and 10th grade history students. These students come from various backgrounds although we are a lower income district as a whole. They are hard workers and want to legitimately learn about the history of the United States! They enjoy the stories and lessons the past teaches those that take the time to understand it.
Visual aids and primary sources bring to life the history of the past for my students and engages even the uninterested students within my class.
History comes alive for them when they see the past through the lens of a picture or an individual's words that lived during that time period. They are excited when they can see that history is about real people that actually lived in the past.
My Project
The goal of having a printer in the classroom is to allow students to have the opportunity to have more visuals of history. The printer gives me the teacher, the ability to print pictures and primary source documents which in the past have been difficult to provide due to copy counts and limited resources.
This would also allow students to have the ability to print in the classroom during historical research projects throughout the class period.
This will also allow for students during argumentative and persuasive essay writing assignments to print rough drafts in class that will allow for them to work with others through the editing process and continue to improve upon their writing and literacy.
