My students are amazing! They work so hard each day after a full year and a half learning remotely due to the pandemic. They are back at school and are now 4th or 5th graders! There are 24 students in my class and the classroom space is very full. We are a small, Title I school with less than 200 students total. The district recently adopted a new literacy curriculum and we are in need of high interest historical fiction books for students. These supplies would be so beneficial!
My Project
We are embarking on a big historical fiction literacy unit where students will read several titles, research a time period, and eventually write their own historical fiction book.
The books I have requested will provide exposure to different time periods and types of historical fiction writing, while representing the demographics of the class so my students can see themselves as a part of history.
We will utilize these books as read alouds, close readings, partner reading, passage study with groups, and independent reading. Students can study the writing style, illustrations, and dialogue to help inspire them to write their own book.
