This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My 7th graders know that I expect them to be lifelong learners. Because of this, I am always sharing my professional development opportunities with them. I want them to see that I am learning continuously, too.
My students hunger passionately for the latest scholarship.
My students are articulate and inquisitive. With these two attributes, I put contemporary issues before them and watch them wrestle with the complexities of those issues. In my classroom (and beyond), students are becoming top-notch historians.
My Project
This national conference represents the latest scholarship on a wide range of topics which I teach in my 7th grade curriculum. By attending this conference, I will be able to learn about methodology, content, and pedagogy which will benefit my students and I will also be able to network with scholars from around the country. This networking piece is very important because, with it, I will always have a way to find resources which will help my students.
I am presenting on female agency in Islam.
I am excited about challenging outdated narratives about this misunderstood part of the world.
