My Students

My students are a wonderful group of children who come from economically disadvantaged homes. We serve the greater Detroit, Michigan area. Many of our students do not have their own school supplies and all students receive free lunch and breakfast. 70% of my students are refugees. My students come to school ready to learn and are one of the best groups a teacher could ask for! I want to give them all the opportunities that they need to close the achievement gap and give them options in their futures. Please help out these amazing kids achieve all of their potentials.

My Project

In our class curriculum we are moving on to a historical fiction unit. The majority of my students are so excited to read the book Number The Stars, however I currently only have 3 copies. To give my students the ability to explore history through a 10 year old's eyes gives them gifts beyond reading. We need your help to give each child their own copy.

Enhancing the classroom library and curriculum will give students a chance to think like historians and readers at the same time.

These students are eager to learn and have a strong passion for collaborating with their peers over similar text. Creating book clubs around their interests helps establish strong reading habits.
