Help me give my students a passport to learn geography skills and history through this wonderfully designed map. It is what I call an infographic, which allows students to process information in many different ways.
My students are eager to learn and want the same chance as students from larger schools. My school is a small school with limited funds to provide the tools and materials needed to give my students an all encompassing social studies educational experience.
My dad, a retired educator, said "It takes a village to raise a child, it also takes one to educate that same child." I have never forgot this.
I know that funding is tight and normally is not spent on social studies education. My students deserve an equal opportunity to practice good social studies critical thinking skills that will be able to use for the rest of their lives.
My students are a very curious group and would be so appreciative of any help that you would give our classroom. One student told me that "Mrs. Steiner, I know you love us because you bring everything from your home and your books to help us learn. That means everything to me."
My Project
This atlas has an abundance of information for students which covers ancient history to modern times. I teach a class on ancient civilizations and modern world history. These materials would benefit all of my students and not just one class.
The historians in training, my students, would benefit from these materials by allowing them to think critically and process historical information in many different ways.
One way is through practicing geography skills that most students in this country lack a proper understanding of geography. When I teach my history courses, I am always including geography to supplement my students understanding. A second way is for students to interpret pictures and make historical inferences about what they are looking at and get a contextual understanding of the time period. A third way is for students to use the short written passages to supplement and extend their understanding of the content being presented to them.
