This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a targeted Title I school with a diverse group of students. Our school is departmentalized which means that I teach every student in the 4th grade at some point in the day. I teach reading, writing, and social studies to students.
Creative, driven, and curious; my students push themselves to be better students and citizens in our society.
Our classroom is devoted to each other, we are our own little community and treat each other with respect, care, and empathy. Students in this class are diverse but are given exactly what they need as individuals as well as a group.
My Project
How often did you read about history as a child? Not in the forced way where you had to read/ learn about certain people and events, but because you wanted to!
Students need authentic opportunities to learn about history solely based on their own curiosities.
Donating to this project will give my students the opportunity to learn more about the people and events that have happened in history but without it being forced on them. Students need to be provided with the choice to read about these topics throughout the year and gain a better understanding and motivation to continue to learn more. Students learn best when they are interested in what they are reading and social studies texts are lacking in our current classroom! Please consider helping create our future historians!
