This is my third year of teaching. All three years I have taught fifth grade. My kids are very diverse. We have over ninety percent poverty at our school and around thirty percent of our students are English language learners. This is my first year teaching all subjects and keeping the same class all day. This is also my first year to teach virtually! I am currently teaching a full class of twenty-five, in-person students while simultaneously teaching students online. This year we have adopted a new ELA curriculum where students have chapter books and workbooks. We also have two Math books, a Science book, and Social Studies weekly newspapers. So, I’m creating this project in hopes of getting resources to help the children learn organizational skills in the classroom. The carts I’m requesting will give each child a drawer to keep their things in without going back and forth to a backpack since we do not have lockers in our elementary school and we aren’t switching classes this year.
My Project
These materials will help students better organize their materials. They have several books they must keep up with for each class. These storage carts will be placed at the end of each of my six tables and students can have a drawer of their own to keep their books, paper, extra pencils, etc. Teaching students early on how to stay organized is very important to me, so that they can be successful as they move on to middle and high school. The six storage carts I am asking for will go at the end of each of my six tables to serve as a place for students to store their materials during class. They will have easy access as we move through the different subjects during the day.
