My students need age appropriate materials for the math & manipulative, literacy & writing, science, dramatic play, block, sensory, art and listening centers.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My dream is to have a classroom similar to Disney World. Every child would be excited to come each day and will remember the experience forever! In a Pre-K classroom, children need many opportunities to learn by play. A wide variety of materials would be needed to accomplish this goal including books, manipulatives, games and listening centers.
My students are all 4 years old and reside in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Our school is one of the many charter schools trying to make a real difference to the educational system here and one that believes that all children should receive a quality education. Since my Pre-K classroom is part of an LA4 state program, all of my little scholars are low income and have not had many life experiences. Out of my 20 wonderful students, 18 are African American and 2 are English learners, that speak Spanish.
My Project
It has already been proven and documented that the first 5 years of a child's life strongly effects their future learning potential and capabilities. As an early childhood educator for almost 30 years, I think that I have a good idea of how to increase the potential for success in the future of my little learners. Many varied learning experiences and learning centers help to create little scholars who take initiative, are persistent, and can develop strong reasoning, problem solving and creative thinking skills. I am requesting a variety of materials that will inspire all of the fore mentioned skills and will make the learning centers in my classroom rich with individual and small group learning. Donors could help this goal by supporting my idea of making learning an exciting play based experience by providing quality materials for my little learners to explore.
Supporting my project will be ensuring that the scholars in my classroom will be receiving the learning experiences that ALL young children deserve.
Not only will donors be helping the future of young children here in New Orleans, but they will be helping to keep New Orleans one of the best cities in the world!
