Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of my students come from a low income, high poverty area. Often, my students come to school exhausted and without materials necessary for school work.
A lot of my students go home and take care of younger siblings while their parents are working the third shift.
Although in sixth grade, many students are responsible for getting themselves and their siblings up in the morning and for getting them to school.
While they experience difficulties in and out of school, my students have hearts of gold. They desire to do well, and truly care about their teachers.
My Project
Our school is close to being one-to-one, which means almost every student has a Chromebook! This gives us an array of strategies to use with the students; however, we need each student to be able to have a pair of head phones.
My goal for writing is to allow each student to have the specific help that they need.
How will I accomplish this? For starters, when each student has their own pair of head phones, they can listen to specific videos that I have recorded for them. This makes their learning personalized. My second strategy is have students dissect writing to make them better writers. In order to do this, they need to be able to highlight different things that they see, such as topic sentence, concluding sentence, transitions, and etc.
Please help me make my students better writers! I am very excited!
