My students are full of excitement and sometimes see school as the only stable constant in their life. They come from broken homes and low economic situations, but they are eager to learn and know that school is important if they want to be successful in life. We encourage them to see school as place of safety, where the adults truly care about them and they will not be judged.
My students are part of my life and I want them to have a bright future.
My students are learning that their future is bright! They learn they may face hardships at home but they are learning they can overcome those. A majority of our school population receives backpack food on the weekends and also receive free or reduced price lunch. Despite everything, they still come to school with a smile on their face!
My Project
In Sixth Grade, students are expected to analyze and code text. Specifically, informational text. Most students have difficulty understanding informational text but with highlighters, we can code the text to make it easier to analyze.
Digging deeper into the text will help my Sixth Graders better understand important pieces of literature.
Coding is a great way to break up the piece of literature. With the colors, the students will have fun while analyzing and discussing the inner meanings of the piece.
We all know that analyzing pieces of literature and informational text can be tough, but with the use of these Sharpie Highlighters, my Sixth Graders will enjoy digging deeper during both Reading and Social Studies texts!
