Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school every day with a smile on their
faces wanting to learn and ready for a new adventure.
My fourth graders are eager to share stories about their families, their lives, and their dreams. I hope for my students to be ready with knowledge and with curiosity and interest in what the future holds for them. I want them to believe that they can change their future.
My students are from different parts of the area, but they are primarily from under-served communities that are traditionally limited in their access to great educational experiences. They are primarily Latino and speak a variety of home languages such as Mam, Quiche, Spanish, and English. Many of them are economically disenfranchised. Ninety percent of the students at my school receive free lunch.
Their reality has not stopped them from striving to better themselves. They aspire to go to college, to learn, and to contribute back to their community. They dream of being lawyers, doctors, teachers, scientists, and soccer players. They want to be that positive change that their community needs.
My Project
Being a learner doesn't come easy to some students, much less knowing how to organize their notebooks for effective learning.
An organized notebook becomes a valuable resource for students.
My students need highlighters to be able to color code their notes and the information that they are putting their notebooks. With common color across all their notebook, they will be able to quickly identify lessons, objectives, definitions and examples. Having an organized notebook will help my students learn not only how to organize their learning but also how to use it later as a resource to help them review for homework or test.
