Higher Tables for High Achievers

My Students

I am a special education teacher that teaches resource math and study skills classes filled with over 50 students, many of whom are from low socioeconomic households. My students are compassionate, enthusiastic, and love to learn! They are active and excited to be back in school, and they love participating in activities that involve moving around and collaborating with their peers.

My students are in need of tables that give them the ability to be able to choose between standing or sitting, allowing them choice and encouraging alertness and active learning that increases blood flow to their extremities as well as their brain.

While my students are excited to be back in the classroom with their peers and teachers, having to sit in four class periods for 80 minutes per period limits their mobility and makes them lethargic. Having the option to adjust their table to be able to stand or sit down when they choose not only will empower them with choice but also keep them from falling asleep and improve their academic efforts.

My Project

Learning math is about to get more fun. These tables and stools will provide a new and exciting place to complete their work every day. It helps students to remove the lethargic same seating they are used to in all their classes.

Students will have the option to sit or stand at a bar height table, allowing them to move around and help them increase blood flow and thus academic output while completing their math work.

This table will support my efforts to provide options for seating ... and now standing. Demonstrating a flexible design for a classroom will help teach students how to be more flexible in their thinking in other areas. It will give them even more options for flexible seating as opposed to standard fixed-desk seating.
