Help me give my students high interest, higher level books. The higher level readers have a pitiful selection of books. These books have been requested and would go a long way to increase the library's selections.
What I love about my students is that they are looking for interesting and engaging higher level stories! My students have been reading up a storm and have finished all the series books we have that are new and popular...they need more!
They know what they like and are not afraid to ask over and over.
Students that read voluntarily, involving personal choice, reading widely from a variety of sources, excel at higher rates. My students are looking for complicated and engaging texts. Did you know that Gifted and Talented (GT) kids fall into the special education programming? This is an unfilled need at all times for school libraries.
My Project
These books will enhance the library's depth. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading.
These new books will allow the higher level readers to be able to choose from a variety of books that are new, popular, and requested titles.
These books will make a world of difference to the higher level readers. With no book budget and only book fair money going to books, I need to buy books for the largest need, which leaves out the higher level students time and time again. For their use in a library, the hardback books hold up to multiple users.
