My students need engaging games and therapy materials to help them learn higher level language concepts, like sequencing, finding the main idea, looking for context clues, and learning higher level vocabulary.
Typically developing children enter kindergarten with solid listening, speaking, and social skills. They develop into students who are able to use higher level language processing and thinking skills. These skills are essential for achieving academic success, fostering relationships, and being successful in the workplace.
The students in my speech therapy room struggle with these concepts and need direct instruction in order to improve their inferencing, social and higher level language skills.
My students with language impairments struggle to follow multi-step directions, process auditory information without visuals, engage socially with peers, and relate information to others in a way that makes sense to the listener.
My Project
These resources will help my students learn the higher level language concepts that they need to know in order to be successful in the classroom.
Academic curriculum in our school is very language heavy; students are required to listen, think critically, apply information previously learned and dictate complex answers to demonstrate learning.
Learning multiple meaning words, being able to inference, and sequence events will help my students with their reading, writing, and math skills to help achieve these goals. Special attention to their social skills development will help them with critical thinking skills in order to foster their relationships with other children.
Your support to their learning now will help them to build skills to last them a lifetime.
