Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students are ready to learn new concepts and welcome new strategies to learn. The students are eager and welcome new ways of learning. Technology really captures their attention and teaches concepts with a variety of options to teach the same concept, for example I can use brainpop Jr, YouTube and Discovery streaming site to teach place value. I need funds to pay for these programs and would like your assistance.
Students need headphones and chromebook accessories for reading online.
I believe our students can learn literacy through technology faster than the regular classroom experience. I need your help to fund our headphones and chromebooks for the students to practice reading, language arts and literacy websites.
My Project
One area my students struggle the most with is listening and speaking. Having taught in other counties I know first hand how nerve wracking it is to try to overcome learning a new language and having the confidence to speak to native peers. I'm requesting 4 Samsung Chromebooks and 4 headphones so that I can set up a listening station. At this station, students will be able to listen to Stories or practice listening to audio conversations to boost their listening and speaking confidence.
In my classroom, we practice listening and speaking daily using cooperative learning strategies.
The addition of technology would give my students a much needed boost of practice in the areas of listening, speaking, fluency, phonemic awareness and develop vocabulary .Students who are confident in their listening and speaking abilities will be ready to face the challenges of higher education and the workplace.
