My students come from diverse backgrounds of many different ethnicities and religions. Our PreK centers promote unity and collaboration in a neighborhood that may be lacking. We celebrate diversity as much as possible! Our neighborhood has a lot of heart and history, and the community members play a big role. Our school offers an energetic and vibrant early childhood culture with a sole focus on the Pre-K experience. We pride ourselves on individualized attention and advocacy of the administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals and support staff. The climate of our school is respect and trust. Each child is valued as an individual while all benefit from social-emotional support. Children are part of a collaborative school community that actively encourages parent involvement, community engagement, and strong family ties.

My Project
This project would bring LIGHT and smiles to so many young learners in my classroom. I look forward to teaching the LIGHT unit and incorporating the materials requested into each of my lessons. The light table accessories would provide visual and tactile aids to assist in teaching shapes and numbers. Most of my students rely on hands-on materials to learn lessons each day. Many are even learning a new language. These activities would be so beneficial in providing white students with hands-on manipulative materials that engage their mind and their body. I like to keep my math classes super interactive, not to mention, I like to keep the students physically moving as they explore mathematics. I remember growing up how boring math class used to be, because I didn’t have colorful materials, engaging physical activities and games, and print-rich literacy materials to help me along the way. Help me, help them love math, as we kick the boring stigma and catapult into high voltage learning!
