Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
During the three years at my school, I've had some of the nicest, the brightest, the most talented, the best behaved, the hardest working, the funniest, the saddest, the most troubled, the poorest, the richest, the biggest pains, the most caring, the I-could-care-less, the shyest, the most outgoing, the physically challenged, the mentally challenged, and all those students in between. They have all helped me grow to become the teacher and human being that I am today—and I thank them every day for that.
I am starting my fourth year here and my students deserve the best Spanish teacher possible.
In a world that is continually changing, I too must shift practices to best accommodate learning for the children in front of me.
My Project
Though there are different ways to teach a language, I have completely immersed myself in teaching with Comprehensible Input (CI). During my three years at my current school, I had the opportunity and privilege of working with a CI guru. She was my coach, mentor, and teacher. She spent a considerable amount of time in my classroom observing lessons and providing feedback. All of my successes in the CI classroom I owe to her.
Due to changing family circumstances, sadly, her family moved to Canada in the spring of 2018.
This school year I need to be creative in seeking feedback since my most valuable resource is unavailable. There are many seasoned CI teachers outside of my building that I would love to engage with and receive feedback from. Having access to a Swivl Robot would allow me to record my teaching on a daily basis, send it out to my more seasoned colleagues around the country, and receive feedback, grows and glows.
I truly believe that as teachers, we are in this together. I am looking forward to collaborating with colleagues and giving my students the best Spanish education possible.
