My Students

I teach at a school of extremes. We have students with nuclear families and million dollar homes and students who live in low-income housing with a parent that works three jobs and they never see. Students that were born in the area and have lived here their whole lives in class with students who speak no English having recently immigrated to the area. Regardless of their status, they are all eager to learn and are excited to use technology to enhance their learning.

My Project

Our 5 Chromebooks made such a huge impact on student achievement last year! My bilingual students received instruction in Spanish and English thanks to the Khan Academy app. Although English Learners made the biggest gains, all students collectively logged over 5,000 hours of math practice time on various apps and completed 5 tech based group projects in the 2017-18 school year. Students who would not have normally had daily access to technology were pm to practice as often as students with access. This year, we want to round off our set of 5 Chromebooks with 1 more, a few tablets (and a lock box) for practice days (to fill the gap for students without personal devices), and a full set of headphones.
