I have around 40 students. These students are in a district that is around 90% poverty. Many of my students are in single parent homes or live with relatives other than their parents. Unfortunately, most of them do not have access to technology at home, and learning is not a priority. They do enjoy learning though, and most have a desire to excel.
My students' eyes light up when I come to get them for intervention.
Students know they are getting ready for the most intensive part of their day with a teacher who is going to give them the most attention in a small group. These students' ages range from 8 all the way to 12. Each group is struggling with various deficits in their math education. I have the privilege of serving them 5 to 6 at a time. They complete hands-on activities, partner skills, and of course computer program practice. My students love the teacher table and look forward to proving their skills when it is their time to get online. From day one, I tell them our goal is help you graduate from this program. In essence, I have to help them not to need me.
Our school's Ipads are in desperate need of replacement. These chrome books will be used everyday during instruction as students move through centers. The teacher table will be a time they can pull up manipulatives and work with me to understand math concepts such as base ten blocks. Students will often use these chrome books to engage in high tech games like prodigy and I-Ready.
I-Ready promises a 38% increase in student performance on state tests with just 45 minutes a week of teacher directed practice.
I-Ready can not be accessed through an I-Pad.
Additionally, this technology is needed for our weekly and bi-weekly assessments. Believe it or not students look forward to progress monitoring and enjoy showing what they have learned. It is bittersweet to see them learn, return to the classroom, and not need me anymore. Help me to grow these students and give them a brighter future. Thank you for your help and support.
