Hello! My name is Ms. Calabrese and I am an 11th grade English teacher at a school in South Florida. This year I am teaching three different courses: AICE English Language (AS), ENG III Through ESOL and ENG III. Many of our students are second language learners, and/ or come from low income family situations, making school somewhat of a sanctuary for them.
I try my best to create a safe and comfortable environment that is fully conducive to learning.
My students are eager to succeed in all avenues in life and I am so proud to be a part of that process!
For as long as I can remember, teachers have been required to display student work portfolios. While they are an excellent idea, our students rarely use them, and they end up just taking up room and collecting dust. This system needs to be updated to make the portfolios more accessible for our students!
I plan to create High Tech Portfolios for my English classes by purchasing a Chromebook and compatible Desk Scanner.
This way my students will be able to access their digital portfolio from any computer-based device. I feel this will be an innovative way to refresh the way we use portfolios, and allow our students to reflect on their learning in a more meaningful way!
