This is a class of lifelong learners, contributors to our community, and citizens of the world.
Our class is a multi-age level group of fourth, fifth, and sixth graders working together to create a community in our general education classroom.
Differentiation is the key to their success, embracing each individual's curiosity to explore our world through their own unique cultural lens.
Students come from all over our city including the surrounding neighborhood and military base, bringing with them their own contributions to the ongoing conversation of learning. Individual, group, and class-wide work is used throughout the day to achieve different results in different concepts.
My students are a true inspiration to me. Their curiosity, compassion, and motivation give me so much hope for our future and compel me to try that much harder to give them what they need to be successful and meet their full potential.
Favorite subjects of the class are always science, math, and reading. How excited they get, especially during anything STEM related, is so energizing, and fuels our learning and growth together as Alaska's future!
My Project
Our classroom is currently home to aged-out iMacs whose processing speed is less than what the operating system demands. The result is frustration from students whose learning is slowed while they wait for the technology to catch up.
Our students, like most peers their age, are very tech savvy and need access to reliable modern technology to support their rapid academic development.
These Chromebooks will take the place of our old desktops to make this possible.
In addition to word processing and internet-based research, students use electronic devices in the classroom to access curriculum-based enrichment and intervention programs including Math-Whizz, Lexia, XtraMath, Kahn Academy, Spelling City, GoMath, and ReadWorks. Students also use the computers to explore coding, image editing, digital mapping, keyboarding fluency, and other technology education applications.
