My amazing students live in a rural area, and more than half survive below the poverty line. My classroom is an inclusion class. This means that I teach students with disabilities along with their typically developing peers.
I learn as much from my students as they learn from me.
Despite the challenges my students face from learning difficulties, poverty, and living in the heart of the opioid crisis, they continue to have good attitudes. They are eager to learn. I want to fill their space with the tools that help them to have the same opportunities as children in more prominent areas. My students deserve every advantage.
My Project
My project consists of two counter height, red stools to be used at a high table. This table that has been raised to bar height has become a very popular seating choice in my flexible seating classroom. The stools will be the perfect compliment to this seating option.
Allowing the students to choose untraditional seating has been proven to improve scores.
It also makes students want to be at school, which is half of the battle.
Another part of this project is cardstock. The students will use this while sitting in the flexible seating to complete projects. They will work together and collaborate.
