These students have never had an opportunity to express their creativity in a physical sense. I am trying to start a state recognized theatre program so that we can compete at a regional and state competition. The students are crying for a chance to express themselves with drawings, acting, and singing. Since coming from a small community, most of these students have never been offered the opportunity to even attend an arts event and this may be their only chance.
My Project
We are wanting to expand our school’s representation in the arts in Mississippi. Every year there is a statewide theatre festival for thousands of high school students and for the first time our school is going to be represented. Under the direction of the theatre teacher, we will present a play that includes up to 20 students and compete against dozens of other high schools in the state. This is an amazing opportunity for the students to learn attention to detail, etiquette, as well as be able to make friends with students from other schools with similar interests. There are also opportunities for each student to compete individually with their talent in acting, singing, movement/dance, and art/design. At least 40 students will participate in these and show the vast talent capabilities of our students. This is a perfect way for students to express themselves, as well as represent our school and show that a small rural school has an abundance of talent.
Unfortunately, we do not have any funding to help cover registration.
There is a large registration fee for each student and we want all students to have an equal opportunity to attend this 2-3 day event. The students are excited because they have never had this opportunity before. Students can stretch their talent and win scholarships for their future college education. This is a great opportunity for our, please help them be able to attend and represent the school in the capacity we know we can. There is no amount too small and every cent will go towards benefiting the experience for the students and giving them this opportunity.
