My saxophone players are being buried by the brass players in jazz ensemble due to poor equipment. These new mouthpieces I have requested will make my saxophone players be able to be heard as part of the group.
My students are part of an elite jazz group at our high school.
They range from freshmen through seniors and they attend a Title I (low income) high school in the state of West Virginia. Entry into this group is by audition, so these are the hardest working and most talented musicians our school has to offer.
My Project
My saxophone players do not have the equipment needed to properly participate and be heard in a large jazz ensemble environment.
I have requested new saxophone mouthpieces, patches to protect the mouthpieces, and tuners to check/train my students' pitch accuracy. The mouthpieces will help my students; musical contributions to be heard during performance. The mouthpiece patches are a necessity to protect the mouthpieces so that they may be used by future players, as the personnel of this group changes from year to year. The tuners are a resource that all of the students in the group will be using to help check/train their pitch accuracy as they develop as musicians.
Your donation will help my students use resources they would never be able to use, let alone procure, on their own.
While not everyone will be directly using all of the equipment we have requested, everyone in the group will benefit because there will be better musical balance across the group, where everyone can hear everyone and the result is a far superior performance to the alternative without the proper tools.
