My students need a high-performance, well-balanced 3D printer with an intuitive interface and easy to use software. This printer is sleek and has solid reviews so that my students can create advanced 3D printing projects.
My students are energetic, enthusiastic, and motivated to learn about science and engineering. Like most middle schoolers they have many wonderful ideas but need to gain experience and confidence turning ideas into reality.
This year I would like to create a "makerspace" to expand opportunities for my students in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
As the year progresses my students and I will use DonorsChoose to help us obtain obtain materials that we might otherwise not afford.
In the past many students that were interested in STEM were unable to participate in the after school activities offered at our school. Our goal this year is to give all students and opportunity to pursue their interests and investigate the impact of technology during the school day.
My Project
Students at our school have access to three inexpensive but often unreliable 3D printers that they can use to learn the basics of 3D printing.
As students gain experience with 3D printing we find that they are having difficulties bringing their ideas into being with our current printers.
We have selected this model 3D printer to improve our ability to create advanced projects.
Last year our printers were used to create a fan shroud and motor mount for a student hovercraft project, fan blades for an electricity generating windmill project and small student designed gifts for friends and family. Students found that often their designs were difficult to print, or that the parts were warped or not as precise as we would have liked. With this higher uality printer we can print better quality objects and possibly expand the use of the 3D printers support math, history and english classes.
