Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students at our school are amazing. They walk into the classroom every day with a smile and always have positive words to say. The biggest challenge we face is lack of funding for classroom materials in our district. The most powerful tool I can give my kids is my time. The students have been reading so much that they need new books that are at their reading level. In our class we will practice reading and text analysis, while having a fun time creating a safe space for students who have limited opportunities to participate in activities.

My Project

Students will develop skills through this project that will prepare them for college and their careers by working in pairs to talk about real problems that they might encounter in their books, challenging their academic vocabulary, and practicing skills to gain an in-depth knowledge of the books they are reading. We are focusing heavily on reading comprehension and the way we are going to increase our knowledge is by reading more. This aligns with the Common Core State Standards that are used in our classroom which ensures that students are prepared for college and career readiness.

By donating to my project, you are helping my students receive the materials they need to be successful.

The copies of fourteen books and the John Green Paperback Collection books that are being requested are for an Honors English Language Arts class at a school with 100% of students receiving free lunch. This means that we are a high poverty school and receiving new books is generally out of the question.

My mission is to give students the academic support and performance data they need so that they will be college and career ready one day.

There is a lot of reading that occurs in our classroom so these books will be perfect. Thank you for considering my project.
