Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a classical school in a low income area. Despite some of life's difficulties, my students are smart, creative and thoughtful young people. They work hard to become the best that they can be. I know that the work can be challenging for some of these students but they always rise to the occasion.
We believe in educating children through classical literature and thoughtful discussions rather than technology.
We help children think critically and apply knowledge. We teach virtues that help students become good, kind, productive citizens.
My Project
I provide my struggling readers with a reading enrichment class. During this class, students read high interest books closer to their level in small groups to help develop their reading skills. Students are given assignments based on the books to help their growth. The goal of reading enrichment is to help students grow to grade level reading.
These requested high interest texts will get students more excited about reading which motivates them to learn.
I am also requesting lapboards which they'll use during instruction.
When students are excited to learn they make more progress. Every teacher's goal is to help students find books they love and hopefully these books will help them find the one that introduces them to a love of reading.
