My Students

My students are mostly 6th and 7th graders. They are tenacious and spunky students who love to learn. They are in my class specifically because they were not deemed proficient in reading the year before on the state exam. So we are working on building their reading skills using high interests texts. I love hearing them say things like "That's interesting!" or "That was a great story!" after we finish a piece of text because not only are they building their reading skills, they are also building their love of reading.

My Project

Both texts are high interest and will encourage my striving readers to ask questions about what they are reading.

"The Color of My Words" will encourage my students to never give up, even when there seems to be no hope.

The Dominican Republic has similarities and differences to Florida and the USA. This story also incorporates poetry for my students to work on their skills of identifying figurative language, tone, and mood.

"Chew On This" will make students ask questions about the food they put in their bodies and where it comes from. They will be able to make decisions about how fast food is having an effect on society and kids.
