This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Becoming "college-ready" only comes after hours of practice with engaging text on their level! Please help prepare my students for college and beyond!.
My students come from the rough neighborhoods in our city.
You know the kind I'm talking about. The neighborhood across the railroad tracks littered with boarded up homes and chaos-ridden streets that haven't been paved in years. Drugs, violence and unemployment are a way of life among their neighbors. Some of our kids have great home lives, some of them don't. Three murders have occurred within a 30 foot radius of our school since we opened our doors in 2008. Children born into our neighborhoods have roughly a 10% chance of graduating from college. The quality of education should not depend on the zip code in which they were brought into this world. This is why we serve this community.
My Project
It is my hope that my students will one day recognize how talented, beautiful, and intelligent they are. The sooner this happens, the better. So that one day when they become the leaders that our schools, communities and country so desperately needs...others may be surprised, but they won't be.
You are making a difference.
You are changing the trajectory of the lives of children in Columbus. The ability to change their world and their place within it is not possible without literacy. Thank you for helping my students take one step closer to a high school, college and career of their choice! It is your generosity and unconditional love for humankind I strive to instill in them.
