Do you remember waiting by the mailbox each month for your favorite magazine to arrive? I want to provide my students the passion of reading informational text by getting them magazine subscriptions.
My 5th grade students attend a Title 1 School or a High Needs School located in Southern California.
For some, they do not have opportunities to experience the world around them. That is where I step in! As our school is starting to implement Common Core standards, I want to be able to provide them informational text with all the possibilities of being a successful reader and learner .
My Project
I would love to have a variety of magazine subscriptions to engage all my 5th grade students. I want my students to learn know that there is a world outside of their little community. Most of my students enjoy reading fictional books and find it challenging to read informational text that doesn't spark their interest! The magazine subscriptions will provide my students a chance to read engaging information at their level and extend their learning at the same time. These magazines will support the newly adopted Common Core State Standards!
